One Hundred Years of Solitude 2
Along side the redesigning of the One Hundreds Years of Solitude text we were asked to produce a nonconventional way of reading the book. I decided to do this through imagery placed into and carved out of the pages.
Penguin Book Jacket
The penguin book jacket competition was to design a cover for One Hundred Years of Solitude. In the top design I wanted to symbolise the hidden manuscripts (the strips of newspaper) and have added the key as a symbol to show that once 'opened' the secrets of Macondo will be found. In the bottom design I took on a more playful vibe. I made the author the king of the piece due to his well known status as an author. The cover is then made up of watercolour patterns to give a gyspy style feel which relates to the story, but is designed to draw the viewer in with the bright colours.
One Hundred Years of Solitude
A small sample of the pages I produced to make One Hundred Years of Solitude appeal to a larger market. I formed a system where you can choose to read the book through cut outs, accompanied by little extras such as larger type or illustrations to the reader keeps entertained. Read this way I carefully selected which words are needed so the viewer still gets the whole plot.
